Description: 2018 DBIA-WPR Owner's Council Webinar Series, Session #5 - DESIGN-BUILD INSURANCE AND BONDING – AN OWNER’S PERSPECTIVE
This webinar will be the 5th of 9 to be presented in 2018. The series is built from the Design-Build Institute of America’s “Manual of Practice” (MOP). A highly experienced practitioner will present each of the 9 topics. This will be a 40 min presentation of the given subject using the MOP as the foundational platform. Under traditional delivery systems, responsibility for design defects is generally a risk undertaken by the design professional, and responsibility for construction defects is generally undertaken by the contractor. This all changes in a design-build contract. The owner gains many advantages in design-build, including the benefit of no longer needing to prove individual responsibility for defective work by the designer or contractor. Insurance and bonding markets are quite dynamic, with products constantly being developed and changed to meet industry demands. However, there are key items for owners to look for to avoid gaps in insurance and bonding in design-build.
