JCE Structural Engineering Group Incan award-winning corporation has been a member of DBIA since 2009 and a dedicated supporter of this distinguished Organization.  Established in November 2000, they are certified as a MBE/ DBE/SBE/LSBE/CBE. They were listed as one of the 100 largest Minority-Owned Business in the County of LA in the 2012 LA Business Journal. They have successfully completed numerous New and Seismic Retrofit projects ranging from mid to high-rise buildings. They have effectively embraced the use of Performance Based Seismic Engineering, Resilience Function Recovery Desing, BIM, Sustainable Design Practices, Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Public Private Partnership (P3).  Their Headquarters is located in Old Town Pasadena, California.

Founder Juan Carlos Esquivel, M.S., S.E., LEED AP, DBIA has over 41 years of experience and has successfully completed numerous projects in Commercial, Industrial, Educational, Healthcare, Hospitality, Transportation, Aviation and Governmental Sectors. He has also executed numerous Seismic Rehabilitation Projects.  Mr. Esquivel has done extensive research on Earthquake Engineering and Structural/Seismic Analysis through post-graduate specialization courses in Yugoslavia, Mexico, Spain and Japan. He lectures and publishes nationally and internationally on Earthquake and Structural Engineering and has participated in several technical committees associated with the A/E/C industry as well as served on the board of many organizations.

JCE Structural Engineering Group is also at the forefront of Building Information Modeling (BIM) by using our Revit Structure and Tekla software as our main Drafting Platforms. The advantages of Revit Structure, Tekla and BIM technology have been proven in all of our projects. The main advantages can be seen in:

  • Less design time
  • Better coordinated set of drawing within our discipline
  • Successful coordination with the rest of the disciplines
  • Less RFI’s during construction
  • No delays during construction
  • Less change orders during construction
  • More cost-efficient designs and within budget schedule

The most recent efficient and cost-effective methods of construction are the Design/Build and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) concepts. This concept allows for more owner participation, single source responsibility, better communication, value engineering, fast-tracking, and better cost control in the design and construction of a project.

JCE Structural Engineering Group has been involved with Design Build, Bridging Documents and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) projects for some time now. They believe that the Design/Build and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) concepts offer the owner price and schedule control early in the process. It unifies the responsibility for the project in one source - the Design/Build/Owner team - reducing the chance of any surprises or miscommunication during construction. A good Design/Build/Owner team creates a partnership with not only the owner and the contractor, but also with all the disciplines involved in the project. They found that Communication is greatly improved from day one and throughout the entire project.

The Design/Build and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) concepts allow ample room for value engineering - a process for reducing the cost of a project - without major changes that affect the intended function or overall appearance of a project. They have successfully used value engineering for many of our projects.

JCE Structural Engineering Group has LEED Certified professionals within our staff with innovative engineering system designs and energy conservation designs. Our design team is environmentally conscious relative to all design decisions including issues of energy sourcing and conservation. Our firm has been successfully dealing with electronic/paperless submittals for a number of years now, including Change Orders, RFIs, Correspondence, revisions and others with many different clients and using a variety of software platforms.

They are committed to the integration of all aspects of sustainable or high-performance design in every project to the maximum extent supported by the program and budget.  Sustainable building design considers all building components during the design phase.  It integrates all the subsystems and parts of the building including Architectural, Structural, MEP/FP systems as a whole and examines how these systems work best together to save energy, reduce environmental impact and provide optimal conditions for users of the building.  They bring innovative ideas on the use of Recyclable Materials, etc. Below is a list of some of the Sustainable projects they have Design.
