UPDATE: NEW CATEGORY JUST ADDED: Virtual Design and Construction

In order to qualify for this category, the submission should be no more than 1 page and describe how the whole team approach inherent in Design-Build allowed for the use of BIM-enabled technologies and VDC processes to flourish, creating a platform where all the client’s goals were embraced and achieved.

  • Was a BIM Execution Plan developed?
  • Were key planning documents such as a BIM Execution Plan and Level of Development (LOD) Specification developed at the outset the project?
  • Describe what model-based deliverables were provided to the Owner and how they will be utilized.
  • List BIM Use Cases that were implemented and identify the quantifiable budget, schedule and quality outcomes that were realized through the application of said BIM Use Cases.

VDC - added information: Digitalization of the built environment includes the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). In this paradigm, BIM is a tool or the model-based technologies that produce a building information model while VDC is the highly integrated collaboration process of a whole team approach throughout a project’s lifecycle leveraging BIM-enabled technologies and workflows. When combined, collaborative project teams can take advantage of a forward-thinking environment where the integration of people, process and technology can thrive in addition to the already valuable outcomes for Design-Build projects.

Award winning projects for the 2012 competition were announced on May 24, 2012 at the Annual Design/Build Awards program! 250 industry leaders attended to celebrate the successes.

The evening began with an introduction made by Vice President for real estate development and asset management at USC and Vice President of our Board, Kristina Raspe.  Eric Kisshauer, Director of Business Development, Charles Pankow Builders and DBIA WPR's current President, was the presentor for the awards.

"Just wanted to say thanks for putting on a great event.  We all go to a lot of these things, but your program was a big step above the usual fare - from food to speakers to program." - DBIA Member

Judges awarded 12 teams with Design/Build Awards. Judges comments on this year's program:

"The entire entry pool was exceptional."

"These has been a very interesting experience, great projects and huge depth of challenges, innovation, variation and high performance – not an easy one to judge! The submittals truly show how Design Build has evolved to be a methodology that truly incorporates all components of the built environment including design excellence, schedule and cost compliance, leadership above all and value for client’s and stakeholders that most times exceed expectations. I am humbled to review these submissions."
