Bay Lunch Program

Date: February 11, 2014

Time: 11:30am to 1:30pm

Location: San Francisco Marriott - Union Square

Description: Bay Area Chapter luncheon presentation, "Kaiser Permanente's Perspective on Design-Build" with Mr. John Kouletsis, AIA, EDAC, Vice President - Facilities Planning and Design for Kaiser Permanente.

Mr. Kouletsis will be discussing the Kaiser Permanente’s perspective on the design build process and the value it brings to projects.

Mr. Kouletsis oversees the planning and design of clinical and non-clinical facilities at  Kaiser Permanente. During his 20-years with Kaiser, John has developed a comprehensive set of facilities design standards and guidelines that continue to ensure Kaiser Permanente hospitals and medical office buildings across the country are built and maintained with a consistent level of quality, efficiency, and affordability. Created in collaboration with hundreds of frontline healthcare professionals, planners, architects, and others, these standards established Kaiser Permanente as one of the foremost proponents of evidence-based design, outcomes-based design, and safety-by-design. John developed the first inpatient room templates for Kaiser Permanente and he managed the development of the “templated” hospital, a site-adapt inpatient design that allows Kaiser Permanente to reduce the time it takes to bring new hospitals on line while still allowing local project teams to adjust the design to accommodate local conditions. Before joining Kaiser Permanente, John worked for 15 years as an architect in architectural and engineering firms specializing in healthcare design. John graduated from USC and did post graduate research in the Dept. of Engineering at Kyoto University. He is a member of the AIA, is the past president of the Board of Directors of the San Francisco chapter of the AIA, and is a member of the Facility Guidelines Institute Healthcare Guidelines Revision Committee.
